Whenever a discussion with my friends and family comes around to finances and opportunities, I always suggest they create a course. I’ve tried to convince my favorite bartender in Dubai to create one. I’ve told my boyfriend, who invests in Crypto, to teach risk management when investing and trading. I have even talked to my sub-contractors about teaching graphic design and animation. And the reason I do that is because I know what a difference it makes, not just to your life but to others as well.
Here are five reasons you should hop on the train and create a course!
1. It’s not that hard
Do you have a phone with a camera? Then you have everything you need! You can record your tutorials directly on your phone or download an app like FilmicPro, which helps you adjust focus, aperture, and temperature right in the app. It gives a cleaner and more professional look. Once you’re done, you edit your video using a video editing app like Splice or Adobe Premiere. It’s easy and better than that, it’s free!
2. You don’t need fancy qualifications
A master’s degree doesn’t impress people. Experience is truly where it’s at, and if you have picked up skills and techniques that help you navigate your profession better, you are in a position to make money from it.
3. You can repurpose the content and scale-up
If your course is performing well, you can use the same content to create a textbook or start a live coaching program and get paid even more for it! Publishing a textbook has never been so easy, thanks to Amazon’s KDP self-publishing feature. Simply put your material together, create a cover on Canva, upload it, and watch the money roll in!
For live coaching sessions, you can use free resources like Zoom or Skype. If you think there is a lot more to cover, you can turn it into a podcast and either keep this podcast behind a paywall or keep it free and earn through sponsors.
4. It’s a passive income stream
The main reason people create content on YouTube, publish books on Amazon, and design courses is to work for them while they sleep. Passive income streams can help you quit your day job and help you do what you actually love!
Now you won’t be making bank right from the start. But give it some time, and you’ll make more than you ever imagined! The key is not giving up. Many people get disheartened when their courses don’t pick up in the first month, but I have had clients who made no more than a few cents in the first few months and now make around $1200 a month without lifting a finger.
5. You have what it takes
You might think you have nothing to teach, but the truth is you can turn anything into a course! Do you like baking? You can teach pastry making or cake design. If you enjoy writing, you can teach creative writing and how to build worlds, develop characters, and structure a plot. If you love watching and critiquing movies, you can put your know-how into a course so others can enrich their movie-watching experiences. If none of these seem like viable options because you work in a store, you can still teach great customer service and how to deal with crises.
So sit down with a pen and paper and take stock of what you know and can teach. If you need help structuring your course and getting started, just send me a message! I have helped produce courses on selling digital products on Etsy, fundraising for your startup, interior design, and blockchain technology. Let’s work together!
