📗 📀 Use Blended Learning in Your Next Course!
I’m a huge fan of learning new things, in case that wasn’t clear. Jack of all trades, master of none. And if you want to be both a student and a teacher, you’ll benefit both ways from applying blended learning.
📚📹 What is Blended Learning?
It’s as it sounds; blended learning combines different offline and online methods in sync to bring you a well-rounded learning experience.
Offline - traditional, face-to-face learning, lectures, training
Online - quizzes, discussion boards, videos, documentaries
You, my dear aspiring course creator, are in a wonderful position to leverage technology, educational software and course builders, and all the new learning tools available to make a fabulous cocktail of offline and online learning strategies.
What is Hybrid learning?
It’s just another term for blended learning, but it also emphasizes balance. Hybrid learning shouldn’t be a one-hour Zoom lecture followed by 8 hours of quizzes, documentaries, and online research.
🧘 It’s all about balance.
The main focus of the blended learning model is to give learners more freedom in the way that they learn and engage in their education.
📝 Types of Blended Learning
1 - Self-blend
This is an approach chosen by the students. They generally take existing material and, if they need some extra help, they take the initiative to do their own research and find videos, webinars, blogs, and articles to help themselves.
2 - Flexible
This usually involves pre-recorded lectures and training sessions so students can get to it when they want to. The fluidity and flexibility give breathing space to both the teacher and the student while still allowing face-to-face support. Oftentimes, a pre-recorded lecture will come with an option for a follow-up meeting to clarify doubts with the teacher too.
3 - Online
This one is entirely digital, but it still counts as a blended model because it employs several different mediums to teach. This kind of class usually takes place either before, during, or after a lecture session, and students can access content from anywhere with any device. The mediums will include YouTube videos, audio and video lectures, podcasts, online quizzes, and much more.
💻 Benefits of Blended Learning for Course Creators
Better engagement because of all the different mediums used
Greater ROI for sponsors and investors in the course because it’s more cost-efficient
It is inclusive because it caters to different learning styles
Allows students to learn at their own pace and not feel pressured
Eliminates the need to attend classes, which is great for students who can’t attend physical lessons due to travel costs or any other reasons.
So now the big question…
🤹 How do I employ blended learning in my course?
If you have already started building your course, chances are you have already incorporated some form of blended learning into it already.
Answer me this: are you speaking and also offering a recommended reading? Ta-da. That’s 2 mediums, and you just blended.
